Global Engagement

An integral role of the Blum Center is to serve as a resource for all Cal students that want to engage in service learning programs specifically designed to alleviate global suffering.  Currently the Center is conducting research on international service learning programs and establishing relationships with potential partners to assist all students, including those in the Global Poverty and Practice Minor, who are looking to make first-hand contributions.

There are many possible practice routes for students in the Global Poverty and Practice Minor.  Students are expected to seek out experiences focused on poverty, inequality, and development.  Note that many, but not all, of the opportunities provided by these resources will meet the practice requirement.  The practice experience must be approved through the formal declaration process and additional proposals, when necessary.

Blum Center Initiatives and Programs

The Blum Center funds multiple poverty alleviation projects led by UC Berkeley faculty, and manages partnerships with various international development focused institutions.  These initiatives have assorted opportunities for student involvement.  For more, visit the initiatives page.

UC Berkeley Experiences

Several Departments and Programs at UC Berkeley offer enriching opportunities for students to get involved in poverty alleviation projects.

Independent Experiences

Many organizations and third-party program providers not affiliated with UC Berkeley offer experiences that students can participate in. Students are encouraged to independently research organizations that may interest them and speak to a GPP Advisor about organizations they are considering working with for their Practice Experience.
